Leadership Styles

When looking at decision-making, not only is it crucial to ask oneself the right questions going into the decision, it is also important to remember that depending on your team members and your own skillset, the manager has to decide on what leadership style to use.

The manager has to take into account her/his own personal skills with regards to the decision being discussed and after asking herself the questions discussed in the previous post, the manager can then decide what leadership style better fits the discussion and that might create a better decision and thus better outcome.

For example, a decision where the manager has little technical knowledge on the matter or where the information flow is away from her, it is crucial for the manager to realise that it might be more constructive to use a delegating or empowering leadership style and thus lead to a better outcome.
